Turkey’s TÜBİTAK Calls for Bilateral Cooperation Program with Germany, United States, Belarus, Bulgaria and Mongolia

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (“TÜBİTAK”) has announced on its official website on June 10, 2020, that the second application collection period of the bilateral cooperation programs with Germany, the United States ("USA"), Belarus, Bulgaria and Mongolia will end on September 30, 2020. Regarding the programs listed below, applications for i) Academic projects can be made by higher education institutions, education and research hospitals, public institutions and organizations, private institutions regardless of their sector and size, and consortiums to be established by these listed institutions and organizations and ii) Research and Development (“R&D”) projects can be made by private institutions regardless of their sector and size, and higher education institutions, education and research hospitals, public institutions and organizations that will apply with these private institutions.

Significant Impediment in Telecommunication: Recent decision of the General Court of the European Union

The General Court of the European Union (“the General Court”) published a press release numbered 65/20 with regards to the judgment in case CK Telecoms UK Investments v Commission on May 28, 2020. The remarks made in the judgment set a light on the understanding of competition in one of the most competitive sectors, the telecommunication sector. In consideration of the pleas and arguments on the respected case, the General Court concluded that solely reducing competitive pressure on the competitors in the market, in principle, is not sufficient in itself to constitute a significant impediment to effective competition.
