The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (“TÜBİTAK”) has announced on its official website on June 10, 2020, that the second application collection period of the bilateral cooperation programs with Germany, the United States ("USA"), Belarus, Bulgaria and Mongolia will end on September 30, 2020. Regarding the programs listed below, applications for i) Academic projects can be made by higher education institutions, education and research hospitals, public institutions and organizations, private institutions regardless of their sector and size, and consortiums to be established by these listed institutions and organizations and ii) Research and Development (“R&D”) projects can be made by private institutions regardless of their sector and size, and higher education institutions, education and research hospitals, public institutions and organizations that will apply with these private institutions.
European Data Protection Board (“EDPB”) has recently adopted a statement regarding restrictions on data subject rights put in place in Hungary for the period of state of danger in context of COVID-19 (“Statement”). The General Court of the European Union (“the General Court”) published a press release numbered 65/20 with regards to the judgment in case CK Telecoms UK Investments v Commission on May 28, 2020. The remarks made in the judgment set a light on the understanding of competition in one of the most competitive sectors, the telecommunication sector. In consideration of the pleas and arguments on the respected case, the General Court concluded that solely reducing competitive pressure on the competitors in the market, in principle, is not sufficient in itself to constitute a significant impediment to effective competition.
Communique No. II-23.2.B on Amendment of the Communique on Merger and Demerger No. II-23-2 (“Amending Communique”) entered into force on May 30, 2020. Government aid especially in aviation has always been the hot topic but nobody expected that such would be the sole way-out to overcome this unprecedented situation for many. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the catastrophic atmosphere has spread and thus, air transport has most probably experienced the longest shut-down and the biggest crisis in its history.
Through the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the aviation industry was hit the hardest amongst others due to strict measures enforced by the public authorities and eventually, slump in demand amongst passengers. Whilst aviation was quoted as “an amazing industry” and “freedom” prior to COVID-19, with the surge of the pandemic, the industry has experienced a rapid slowdown and been dragged into a tremendous freeze.
