Corona Outbreak: Extensions for Filings by Turkish Competition Authority

Turkish Competition Authority (“Authority”) on April 17, 2020 published an announcement regarding the extension of the deadlines for inquisitions, researches and investigations carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic under the Law on the Protection of Competition (“Law No. 4054”) in order to not to cause any detriment to respective parties’ rights. Accordingly, the Authority resolved the followings to prevent prejudices to rights of the respective parties due to Covid-19.

i. Acceptance of applications of concerned entities for requests to be granted additional time to submit their second and third written defenses by April 30, 2020 within the framework of Article 45 of the Law No. 4054.

ii. Acceptance of the issues which were intended to be presented in addition to the written defense but could not be raised within the specified period, during the investigation. In addition, there is an opportunity for the concerned entities to state their defense arguments within the third written defense period, which they could not submit within the second written defense period.
