As per the Biosafety Law No. 5977 (“Law No. 5977”), applications regarding research, development, processing, placing, monitoring, use, import, export, transport, storage, packaging, labeling and similar activities in relation to genetically modified organisms developed with modern biotechnological methods and their products shall be evaluated by the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (“the Ministry”) based on a report prepared by Scientific Risk and Socioeconomic Evaluation Committees (“the Committees”). In this regard, after evaluation of the Committee’s report, the Ministry decided to approve a petitioner’s (“the company”) applications on industrial enzyme production.
Accordingly, the company has been authorized to manufacture industrial Aspergillus Oryzae α-amylase, glucoamylase and hemicellulose enzymes with a distinctive identity assigned as LIVZ 101,102 and 103 for 10 years provided that the company follows the rules stipulated on the decisions, Law No. 5977 and related regulations i.e. using the products as intended, reporting the data required for risk management and market control, labelling conditions (with a distinctive identity and products information written), monitoring and documentation of production and marketing processes, packaging with a resistance to cracking and tearing, following waste treatment, disposal, transportation and preservation rules and preparing security and emergency measures.
